The Eagle…

Do you know that when the ‘Eagle’ mates, it mates for Life?!

Do you know that the female eagle very carefully chooses said mate by testing several male eagles before actually settling on her life partner?

Girls, listen up! This is for you! A lot can be learned from the actions of a female eagle!

Guys, there is something for you to learn too! So don’t leave just yet! ūüôā

First of all let me explain to you how the female eagle chooses her mate:

When it comes time for the female Eagle to choose her
mate, she prepares herself for many suitors. She looks them over quite well and
then picks one to fly with for awhile. If she likes
the way he flies she finds a small stick, picks it up
and flies high with it. At some point she will drop
the stick to see if the male can catch it. If he does,
then she finds a larger stick and flies with it much
higher this time. Each time the male catches the
sticks, she continues to pick up larger and larger
sticks. When she finds the largest, heaviest stick
that she herself can carry (the stick is at this point
almost the size of a small log, but she can still fly
very high with this large stick) she throws it down as the final part of this test.
At any time in this process, if the male fails to
catch the stick, she flies away from him as her signal
that the test is now over. She begins her search all
over again. And when she again finds a male she is
interested in, she starts testing him in the exact
same way. And she will continue this “testing” until
she finds the male Eagle who can catch all the sticks.

Another test she will do is during their courtship. The female will fly to the highest heights and then free-fall to the ground. The male will then swoop down and lock talons with her. She will fall as low as she possibly can to see if the male eagle will stay with her protecting her even from death. If he passes this test, he conveys a simple message: he is committed to her.

And when a male eagle does pass all her tests, she chooses him, and will mate with
him for life.

So, girls, what do you have to learn from the eagle?!…

Well, let’s start with this:¬†¬†What qualities are you¬†looking for in your future husband….?! Do you want a man that is committed to you, until death?!¬†How well are you ‘testing’ your suitors before you give them a full time position in your life? (…and by testing I mean asking important questions…testing your ‘suitors’ loyalty to your friendship- if your ‘suitor’ isn’t loyal to you in friendship- chances are that he will not be loyal to you in love either.)

It is important to filter the men we allow into our lives. Most importantly, don’t do the filtering on your own. As you are doing your ‘testing’ remember this verse as you ‘free-fall’: “…but those who¬†wait upon¬†the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31” Put your full trust in God and the Holy Spirit will do all the guiding you will ever need!

And guys, what do you have to learn?

Likewise you need to filter which girls you allow in to your heart. Ask God to be your guide as well in choosing which female you will prove your greatest love to! Which female you will choose to¬†pass all her tests, and which female you will lock talons with to prove to her you are her’s for life! When God directs you¬†to which girl he has choosen for you- chase her like¬†you are chasing after water in the desert!

To both guys and girls:

God has someone already picked out for each and every one of you. Someone that will love you, and cherish you until death parts you. Please, PLEASE, put your faith and trust in him to guide you to this person. Don’t let friends pressure you into thinking that you need to date dozens of people before settling down with the one he has for you. Do test your ‘suitors’ girls. Being friends with a guy is much, much different than giving your heart to him.¬†And guys, when God does direct you to that special girl- make sure you declare your devotion to her and cherish her all the days of your life.

Mom’s and Dad’s: Pray for your kids and the decisions they will make in their furture days regarding love Pray for their spouses. Even if you have little one’s like Nathan and I, pray for their spouses. It is never too early or late¬†to start!!¬†

Day 2: Couch to 5K

Walkin' partners!!!

Here goes day 2!

Well, I knew that starting a “fitness program” would show its difficulties…but today….I mean…. COME ON!!!

It is SUPPOSED to be spring, people!! How can it be 14 degrees celcius and¬†bright sunshine¬†one day and then 0 degrees with snow flurries and HAIL the next day? It just doesn’t make sense!

Make up your mind “Mama Nature”!!! I mean, really!!!

Today Sarah and I¬†planned to do our walk/jog¬†day two because Wednesday`s are¬†extremely hectic for the both of us already. (remember our routine calls for every other day so technically day two is supposed to be tomorrow)¬†So, we planned for 6pm¬†with a change of location to her neighborhood.¬†This plan¬†felt and sounded like a great idea to the both of us when we were discussing it yesterday….

Then we woke up.

I can`t speak for Sarah, but¬†please¬†let me explain that when I woke this morning I felt the side of the bed for bed rails because I thought for sure I¬†was hospitalized…. the way I felt, I thought I¬†must have been run over by a car or something… I am not exaggerating. My body ached from the hair on my head to the toenails on my toes. When I actually rolled my 27 year old body out of bed (may I add here it felt like a¬†NINETY-seven year old body) my hips clicked and clacked as though I had just had a hip replacement.¬†Sheesh…I just went for ONE run!! Not to mention the fact that both of my ankles felt like they were going to shatter at any given¬†moment.

Enough complaining. I can do this.

Sarah called at 5pm to confirm our 6pm meet! If it would have been myself making the decisions….calling the shots… I would have called it quits right then and there. But, we have a goal, and we have each other,¬†so we kept our date!!!

I pulled into her driveway at 6pm just as the SNOW had started to fall. SNOW. In SPRING!!!! I was wearing my workout gear which consisted of my stretchy capri`s, and zip-up sweater…. Yes, I said capri`s… In the snow. Oh…..but, it get`s worse….Sarah and I set off on our journey as planned and before we even walked 500m down her road, I fell and broke my ankle.

I kid, no ankle breaking happened- but it certainly did feel like it could have¬†ūüôā

But seriously, in addition the the snow falling all around us…. it began to HAIL. I mean really,¬†WE CAN`T WIN, FOR LOSIN`!!!

No more SNOW!!!!!

Sarah`s parents and my dear friends even drove around the block trying to lure us into their vehicle out of the storm. But, we denied the easy way out! Yay for us!!!

If you ask us, we call THAT determination! ūüôā We have a goal in mind, and we are running for the prize!

Day 3 of week one will be on Friday! So- be sure to stay tuned for more Couch to 5K adventures.

Running for the prize…

Weddings are so much fun! Especially when you get to be a part of the couple’s special day! Fancy dress, professional make-up, super-amazing hair-do… It’s like prom all over again for the bridesmaids ūüôā And, I have the priviledge of being a part of Brandon Cousineau and Nancy Nardone’s special¬†wedding in just 3 days shy of 17 weeks!!!

Thats exciting- but there is a lot of work to do before then! I have heard of so many workout plans over time but I think I have FINALLY found one that will work great for me!

Sarah Cousineau (sister of the groom and fellow bridemaid) is doing this program called “Couch to 5K” with me. The objective of the program is to work our bodies into shape enough to run 5k! I know, I know it seems crazy… but we’re on the journey together- holding each other accountable, keeping each other strong ūüôā

We downloaded the “couch to 5K” app onto our iPod’s and used them for our first day. It switches songs on your own playlist¬†to let you know when a new action is required.

Today was day one. Here is what today required:

Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Brisk five-minute cooldown walk for an overall workout time of 1/2 hour!

I am not going to lie…if Sarah wasn’t with me I would have thrown in the towel after the first 60 seconds of jogging! I can’t tell you how badly my lungs were screaming at me for putting them through such torture… If I were alone I would have hauled out all the excuses….I need to pee….I need a drink of water….I’m going to die?!….

But,¬†Sarah encouraged… and she¬†pushed….. and we finished today’s task! And….suprisingly it feels good ūüôā She was a trooper, I picked a good partner ūüėČ

Tomorrow will be day two because Wednesday’s are horrible for busy-ness! (You are supposed to go every other day.) So, look for an update on our journey soon! And, if you are intrigued by this idea…send me a message and I can tell you all about it!

For Sarah and I…. we have a¬†goal to walk/jog towards…. it looks a little like this…

….Feeling better about ourselves for that day we celebrate Brandon and Nancy’s love with fancy dresses…. professional make-up….and super-amazing hair-do’s!

What are you jogging/walking towards?!
